On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, Grayback Forestry and Vicki Minor, Executive Director of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation hosted a gathering with the families of each of the fallen and injured firefighters at Grayback Forestry.

The families gathered to meet each other, meet their son’s crew and spend some time together.

The company received help from Genevieve Rasmussen from the Bureau of Land Management and a group of volunteers to create photo memory boards for each of the seven men who lost their lives. You can see some of those boards on the individual firefighter’s pages.

I only knew you a short time, but you will be missed. Sweet dreams

Words are never enough, and yet they are all we have. Our son and his crew are on duty, but wish to send their respect and condolences.

The Lord bless you and keep you–the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. Numb. 6:24-26.

I was honored to make the photo boards for the fire fighters. The people that assisted me in this emotional and worthy task were Leslie Voekel and Janie Casad. I would not have been able to complete the boards without their help.

We felt like we got to know something about each of the men as we worked on their boards. They were great people and contributed so much – each in his own way. I feel such sorrow at the loss of these wonderful guys.

First of all I want to express my most deepest sympathy and condolences to each and every family member of every fallen firefighter. This would have been posted sooner, but every time I sit at this keyboard my emotions overwhelm me and I just sit here and cry. As a mother of a Grayback Forestry Firefighter, I can only imagine what everyone is going thru. But I cry for them as if they were my own sons. The loss has affected so many. I continue to pray daily for all those that this tragedy has touched and I also pray daily for those that are still out there laying their lives on the line to keep the rest of us safe. Julie Quintanilla, mother of Brady Sadoff, Grayback Forestry Firefighter
